PMKVY 4.0 Scheme
PMKVY 4.0 is being realigned with a core focus on making the existing skill ecosystem more flexible, swift, and geared to meet the current challenges and emerging needs through process simplification. This flagship scheme aims to empower Indian youth by providing industry-relevant training and enhancing their employability.
CFTI Chennai's Contribution
CFTI Chennai has conducted short-term training for 265 candidates under the PMKVY 4.0 Scheme, who have successfully completed the NSQF-approved courses. The primary objective of this scheme is to cultivate a skilled workforce and foster an enabling ecosystem for youth to acquire skills and pursue career opportunities within the footwear and allied industries.

The training courses of PMKVY are based on the approved QPs (a set of National Occupational Standards) for the Leather Sector as follows:

TNSDC Skill Training Programmes
CFTI Chennai, as a training partner, is conducting a short-term skill training program for 1805 candidates for FY 2022-23 and 2023-24, titled ‘Placement-linked Entry-level Training for Unemployed Youth,’ sponsored by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation under the TNSDC Green Channel.
In FY 2024-25, CFTI Chennai, as a training partner, provides industry-relevant and emerging courses to impart skill training and employability to the youth of Tamil Nadu under the Finishing Schools Program.
This quarter, the Skill Training Division at CFTI Chennai commenced training for 60 candidates, with mobilization efforts underway for approximately 400 candidates. Training centers have been set up in remote villages near Footwear and Leather Goods Industries. Pre-surveys with MSMEs and industries facilitate parallel placement of trained candidates post-completion.

CSIR-CLRI is an apex body catering to Research and Development (R&D), Human Resource Development (HRD) and other services for the benefit of the leather industry. CSIR-CLRI has supported the leather industry’s growth over the decades.
CFTI in association with CSIR-CLRI has been actively involved in skill training for the artisans in various job roles of the leather products industry.

ESDP, EAP, and MDP under ESDP Scheme
CFTI Chennai has implemented 'Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programmes (ESDP) scheme' under the Plan Head "Entrepreneurship and Skill Development -MSMS" for organizing EAP, ESDP & MDP training progmmmes.
CFTI Chennai has completed training for 525 candidates under the EAP, ESDP & MDP training progmmmes. Additionally, we have received training order for 3250 candidates under the EAP, ESDP & MDP training progmmmes in association with various universities alongwith the Footwear and Allied industries.
The objective of these programs is to motivate youth to consider self-employment or entrepreneurship as viable career options and to promote Footwear Industry Leadership Development: Navigating Trends, Innovation, and Sustainability.

Assistance to Training Institutions (ATI)
CFTI Chennai has conducted training at the ESDPs under the ATI scheme for the past three years. Over 275 candidates were trained by CFTI Chennai at our Extension Centre Vaniyambadi Multi Skill Development Centre.
The ATI scheme aims to build capacity in both physical infrastructure and human resources (HR) in national-level institutions under the Ministry of MSME to undertake skill development.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)
CFTI Chennai implemented the KVIC-sponsored Designing and Manufacturing of Footwear Training Programme under Gramodyog Vikas Yojana at our institute premises. Over 60 Artisans from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telengana States were trained in the past 3 years.
The objective of this training is to provide Skill upgradation to the Artisans who were already in this trade to enhance their skills and to learn the advance technologies in leather footwear sector, Artisans and beneficiaries will be imparted Skill development/Upgradation training programmes and will be distributed Machinery, tools and equipments in the V.I. Verticals.
