The Central Footwear Training Institute (formerly CFTC), Chennai The Premier Institute of its kind in the country, came into being in July, 1957, with the assistance of Ford Foundation. The erstwhile CFTC was conducting 18 months "Advanced Footwear Technology Course" and Practical oriented need based short - term courses.
At CFTI Chennai, we partner with our students and go along with them in imparting skills and motivate them in bringing their creativity in Footwear designs that go well beyond their greatest expectations.
We represent The Govt. of India, for the development of the Footwear Industry in the country and to impart the skills for the needy and downtrodden. Our training programs are carefully designed to meet the needs of the industry with coursers of short duration of 3 months to long term courses of 2 years.

Our Institute has a well developed infrastructure with imported machineries and is equipped with the lasted designing software’s in our computer labs. Financial assistance from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under National Leather Development Program has equipped the workshop with the latest imported machinery for footwear production and is well equipped with machines for physical testing of leather and footwear.High quality human resource is the greatest asset of the Institute. The CFTI faculty members are from the finest Institutes of technology in the Country and have been trained abroad in advanced methods of footwear production.

We conduct training at community level in their locality and make them attain better living standards. We also do project consultation. We help in preparation of project plan, impart technical knowledge and assist them in successfully implement their project.
